At the end of 2017, the American Academy of Periodontology released a new classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions. The objectives of this new classification are two-fold: One to improve clinicians’ understanding and appreciation of disease progression and two to incorporate the presence and control of risk factors in the diagnosis.
